DUKE'S FOREVER DOODLES
DFD Signature Start Program
Thoughtfully preparing puppies for life beyond our home.
At Duke's Forever Doodles, we believe a puppy's development begins long before go-home day. Through our DFD Signature Start™ Program, every puppy receives intentional enrichment, socialization, and age-appropriate experiences designed to build confidence and create a smoother transition into family life.
Why We Created Signature Start
More Than Puppy Raising. A Foundation for Life.
When we first began raising puppies, we quickly realized that the most important part of a puppy's journey doesn't begin when they go home—it begins in the weeks before.
The first few months of a puppy's life are filled with critical developmental stages that help shape confidence, resilience, adaptability, and how they respond to the world around them. While many puppies go home at a young age with little preparation beyond basic care, we believed there was an opportunity to do more.
We created the DFD Signature Start™ Program to provide every puppy with intentional enrichment, socialization, and age-appropriate experiences designed to build a strong foundation for family life. Rather than simply caring for puppies until they're old enough to leave, we use each stage of development with purpose—helping puppies grow into confident, well-rounded companions.
Our goal is simple: when your puppy comes home, you're not starting from scratch. You're welcoming a puppy who has already been loved, guided, socialized, and thoughtfully prepared for the next chapter of their life.
Week 1–2: Building Strong Foundations
-
Daily handling & bonding
-
Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS)
-
Early Scent Introduction (ESI)
-
Individual weight tracking
-
Around-the clock care

During the first two weeks of life, every puppy receives individualized care designed to support healthy development from the very beginning. Through daily handling, ENS, ESI, and careful monitoring, we begin building the foundation for confident, resilient, and people-focused companions. These early experiences may seem small, but they help shape how a puppy responds to the world for years to come.
Week 3–5: Exploring the World
-
Real grass introduction
-
Open-door crate introduction
-
New sounds and textures
-
Confidence-building exploration
-
Family environment exposure
-
Early socialization experiences

During weeks three through five, puppies begin exploring the world around them. As their senses develop, we introduce new experiences in a safe and positive way, including real grass, household sounds, different textures, and open-door crate exposure. These early experiences help build confidence, curiosity, and adaptability while encouraging puppies to approach new situations with a positive mindset.
Week 5–8: Building Confidence & Social Skills
-
Age-appropriate enrichment
-
Puppy-to-puppy socialization
-
Novel object exposure
-
Grooming introduction
-
Potty routine reinforcement
-
Foundation crate conditioning

As puppies become more active and engaged, we focus on developing confidence, social skills, and resilience. Through carefully planned enrichment activities, interaction with littermates, grooming exposure, and introductions to new sights and objects, puppies learn valuable life skills that help them become well-rounded companions. Every experience is designed to build positive associations and support healthy emotional development.
Week 8–12: Preparing For Family Life
-
Temperament evaluations
-
Puppy matching process
-
Harness introduction
-
Leash introduction
-
Continued socialization
-
Transition preparation

During the final weeks before go-home day, our focus shifts to preparing puppies for a successful transition into family life. Puppies continue building confidence through new experiences while being introduced to harnesses, leashes, and everyday routines. Temperament evaluations help us thoughtfully match each puppy with the family that best fits their personality, creating stronger lifelong partnerships.
The DFD Difference
The DFD Signature Start™ Program is more than a checklist of activities—it's our commitment to giving every puppy the strongest possible foundation before joining their forever family. From ENS and ESI in the earliest days to confidence-building, socialization, and thoughtful temperament matching, every stage is intentional. Our goal is simple: when your puppy comes home, you're not starting from scratch. You're welcoming home a puppy that has already been loved, guided, and thoughtfully prepared for the next chapter of their life.
